Happy New Year from RI Health Coaching! I love the opportunities that a New Year provides...opportunities to focus on things that really matter and can make a difference, especially when it comes to our health! For example, did you know that each time you eat, you have the opportunity to tell your body to burn fat or store fat? Small, simple changes made over a period of time can be game changers for our bodies!

    3 things to start TODAY!!

    1) Commit to eating a protein-rich, colorful breakfast each day: Skip the cereal, junky cereal bars and carb-heavy breakfasts! Instead, choose eggs, protein shakes, colorful herbs and low glycemic fruits. My favorite breakfast recipe:

    West Coast Eggs

2 eggs prepared to your liking

2 T sundried tomatoes (in olive oil)

1 T chopped, fresh basil (can also use cilantro or parsley, if desired)

    1 tsp chopped scallions

    1 T smoked salmon (optional)

    1/2 sliced avocado

Prepare eggs and top with remaining ingredients. Enjoy!

    2) Eliminate your food sensitivities:  If you are overweight or suffer from inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, the potential health benefits of discovering and eliminating hidden food sensitivities cannot be overstated. In the wise words of Dr. Mark Hyman, "Food is your greatest ally in helping to prevent and treat illness".

Perhaps you have had this testing done but have not been able to eliminate these on your own. I am here to help! As a food sensitivity specialist, I can help you come up with a plan and food alternatives that will help you calm the inflammation that is making you tired and puffy. Remember, it can take weeks to months to feel the benefits of eliminating your food sensitivities.

    3) Drink plenty of water (at least 8 glasses, preferably more): Chronic dehydration can cause symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, dry mouth and skin, digestive problems, dizziness and muscle weakness, just to name a few! Dehydration can also masquerade as hunger, causing you to eat more. Try doing this for several days in a row to see if you notice a difference in your energy levels.
